Facebook Connected
Tuesday, January 13, 2009 at 6:29AM
I've turned on Facebook Connect (yes it only took a week after Amber told me about it) with the Disqus commenting system we use here. Now you can post a comment on the blog using your Facebook account for credentials. Despite all the attention Twitter gets in our neck of the digital woods, it seems to me that Facebook is building overwhelming momentum in the social media space. With 150 million plus users the network effect is really starting to kick in.
The success of Facebook also puts the lie to the widely accepted truism that Twitter competitor, FriendFeed, isn't growing because it's hard to use. I'd argue that Facebook is just as overwhelming to the new user but it rewards his or her initial struggle immediately and palpably due to the size of its network. Twitter succeeds for the same reason. It's not simplicity, it's simply the number of people who use the service.
Give our new Facebook Connect-powered commenting system a try and let me know what you think.

Not sure what the deal is but the RSS is still not full text.
More Facebook's friends!:)
I have an account on both, Disqus and Facebook. I will continue to comment logged un Disqus as I have set up Friendfeed with all my social accounts something I only have partially done on Facebook.
Regarding your post am I glad Friendfeed appears to be too complicated (???) vs FB or Twitter. This results in a lot less noise there and generally more 'mature' inputs from the community.
So is it the integration for log-ons with disqus or the blog itself integrates with facebook?
Does using the facebook integration allow me to track my comments through facebook?
This IS a cool use of the technology!
Leo - you have motivated me to install Facebook Connect on my site.
Giving Facebook Connect a whirl... pretty slick.
Works great just wish DISQUS gave more CSS control.
I love this! ... now I don't have to sign up for multiple blogs in order to comment, and now this whole thing is integrated with FaceBook? ... BRILLIANT!

@Brent,
I found there is a way to completely control the CSS of the Disqus plugin, take a look at their FAQ link at the bottom of any Disqus page and you will find information about customizing the CCS attributes.
Basically you'll be placing a string of code into your header that directs Disqus to your CSS file and they give you most of the CSS elements. I say most because I had to use Firebug to find the CSS element for the sidebar widget.
Hope that helps ... Scott
Really easy to use! Hope more sites use FB Connect.
sweet beans
I could not get it to work, I logged in ok, but all comments went to an error page. and were not posted.
Excellent
Hi Leo, just now testing out all of this wordpress / disqus / facebook connect goodness
Facebook connect to comment on all things Leo? Sweet.
I guess since I have a Facebook account I will give this a try and see how it works!
Love all the ideas I get from Net@Nite. Just added Facebook Connect to my tumblr blog here: http://www.darrenscorner.com/" rel="nofollow">http://www.darrenscorner.com/. Thanks Leo & Amber
Super simple - but man how it helps the commenters! thx!
Thanks for the upgrade, Leo!
Facebook connect is a great idea. Didn't work on mac with safari. Firefox worked.
As it all starts coming together (Facebook Connect, Friendfeed, Ping.fm etc), this social media thing starts to make real sense.
Facebook connect doesnt seem to work with Opera, I've had to use FIrefox to test this.
Works great also.. Trying to add this FB Connect to my blog but still need to iron some bug out.
