Facebook Connected

connected-3.png I've turned on Facebook Connect (yes it only took a week after Amber told me about it) with the Disqus commenting system we use here. Now you can post a comment on the blog using your Facebook account for credentials. Despite all the attention Twitter gets in our neck of the digital woods, it seems to me that Facebook is building overwhelming momentum in the social media space. With 150 million plus users the network effect is really starting to kick in. The success of Facebook also puts the lie to the widely accepted truism that Twitter competitor, FriendFeed, isn't growing because it's hard to use. I'd argue that Facebook is just as overwhelming to the new user but it rewards his or her initial struggle immediately and palpably due to the size of its network. Twitter succeeds for the same reason. It's not simplicity, it's simply the number of people who use the service.

Well, that was simple! Nice touch, Leo :D

It works great Leo! I am also seeing a surge in Facebook in terms of "regular" people around me.

More and more I am finding Aunts and Uncles, cousins and non-tech friends joining in at Facebook. It is actually really cool to see.

It also makes Facebook much more entertaining for myself to see family joining in on the social networking fun that I have enjoyed for man many years!

Works great. I wonder what other uses Facebook Connect could have for websites!

very easy - once I found it!

I love it.

Now disqus need to get the same thing going for internet forums so that we can have all of our comments easily aggregated! :D

Hey Leo

The options that are built into Disqus are really useful, including the Facebook Connect option. I tend to use my Disqus account and have been posting video comments lately as a change from text. Video commenting via Seesmic is a great way to spice things up a bit.

By the way, Disqus doesn't seem to be running on this blog at the moment. Back to the usual commenting option.

Versatile Disqus and its Facebook Connect integration

Since I already have a disqus account i'm going to continue to use it and not use facebook connect. I do have it enabled on my own blog though and think that it's a great option for people to use when posting comments.

I do have a feeling that lots of people will still want to remain anonymous.

But... on pages that require you to login to comment the disqus/facbook connect options are great.

This is a great service Leo. I don't have to work about making an account on here just to post in the blog. ;)

I think the best part about it is being able to see all of your comments on every disqus-enabled site in one spot.

(I am, admittedly, mostly replying to this to test that functionality out) XD

Hey Leo, just want to test out Connect. Works great!

Nice to have the FB option. On a separate note, Leo can you please turn on FULL posts RSS in wordpress settings. I'm sure lots of people would appreciate reading the whole posts in an RSS reader.

Facebook Connect is just another one of those tools which build community on the web. If anything Facebook Connect is/will be better at building a 'wider' community then Friendfeed. Friendfeed i think, is more of a 'intellectual' community.

Sat listening to Net at Night, hearing you discuss this spurred me to enable it as well. It is the power of the network.... Although I would be looking now for a bridging mechanism now for Disqus + Facebook Connect + Google Friend Connect + Intense Debate. Too many comment mechanisms on my blog now.

I wonder if there would be a way to speed up load time for those of us that are Bi. I took it in the behind with twitter, it made my hole sore with Scoble Hezbalah Nazis. I'm now giving friendfeed and Disqus a spin. I'm begining to think that monogamy is the best social network. Is monogomy facebook only? sit on my facebook!

Don't like it... uses your real name.

January 13, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterZoyx

Not bad at all, but I'm not a big fan of the fact that my name is just out there for everyone to see. Facebook needs to come up with aliases or something.

January 13, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterChris Golding

I had no idea it was turned off. Must have reset itself somewhere. Or I never noticed it. I'm off to fix it right now. I hate excerpts in RSS!

LOVE IT!!!

Wow This Facebook connect is pretty cool!

January 14, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterSteve Huff

It's so easy to comment now I don't even have to log in if I'm already in facebook

Works good at this end too. Hello from the UK.

Oh, I love this, Leo! I don't know about you guys, but I hate having to create separate accounts on places all over the internet.

Testing out Facebook Connect

January 15, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterMatt Bennett

I love this Facebook Connect thing, thank you, thank you, thank you for introducing me to it.

Now people can leave comments on my blog (http://www.kolomona.com" rel="nofollow">www.kolomona.com) through their Facebook login.

Your podcasts keep me from going insane while I'm working my tremendously monotonous job as a tire retreader.

I'm a long time fan from the ZDTV days. Keep up the good work!!!
