Greetings from Sydney

Mikkel Aaland and I just arrived in Sydney on the way to Hobart, Tasmania. Qantas took great care of us on the way - it was my first time in the "bubble" up top of a 747 and I slept like a baby. Maybe that's because they give you your very own set of jammies.

Aussie Mike met us at the gate and got us into the Qantas Club. I took a much needed shower and feel like a new man. I'm headed off to the "meetup" at the SYD Starbucks. Hope to see a few of you there!

It's nice to be the King (or at least treated like one). Bravo.

Leo,

Hope you have a great trip. Please share your photos if you can. Stuck here in Massachusetts, we are experiencing a prolonged Winter and could use so nice photos to look at while we wait for the real Spring to arrive. Didn't realize you were a Lightroom user, let us know how you used it on your trip.

Thanks, Paul

the top of a 747 is cool, so small and intimate, allowed me to imagine/dream i was in a private jet

That is really cool! Obviously, Leo did not get stuck in coach, as he knew was a possibility. I think that we should get that outfit for all of the twitters for the initial Video TWIT in the new studio :)

I would love to give the bubble in a 747 a try. Seems really cool. Looking forward to see what you do with that Lensbaby. I absolutely ADORE those things. The photos that come from them are so great.

Have a great time Leo!

Hi Leo,

Welcome to Oz!

Phoned SeaFM here in Hobart today only to discover you won't be "live " on-air locally and won't be taking any local calls (at least on the SeaFM phone number). Can those of us in Hobart phone-in during the podcast? How?

Cheers,
Phred

Damn Iam in Melbourne, would love to meet up. Hobart is a fantastic little city leo. You have to try a steak dinner at The old Ball and Chain in Hobart. and take a walk down through Battery point. oh and a drive up to Mt Wellington, It will prolly be snowing too!
And the air is so clean down there too.
And when you go off into the bush to shoot, you will probably feel like the only person for thousands of miles.
Tis a nice place....

Have Fun Rod...

BTW in case you are looking for a phew photo ops between now and your safari next week:

. Down the Tasman Peninsula on the way to Port Arthur there's a side trip just after Eagle Hawk Neck to Devils Kitchen, BlowHole and Tasman Arch. At the end of that road there's an easy hike (maybe 45min return) to Waterfall Bay. If its a sunny day some good photo ops.

. On the way down to Port Arthur before Copping there's a turn-off to Kellevie. Branching off Kellevie road is the “W Road. (the Wyelangta Forest Road). That road takes you to the East coast. About half way along the W Road (10km'ish) is a shelter/BBQ area and just up the road about 100m is a short rain forest walk. Can be some really good close-up photo ops. Only issue is if it has been raining the W Road can be treacherous.

Your minders will probably know of both places but thought it was worth mentioning.

Cheers,
Phred

I'm a big fan of the upper deck as well. Did you get the new flat bed seats or the, 'nearly flat,' ones?

The upper deck of those new double decker aircraft that Singapore Airlines has is also the way to go. Even in coach/economy.

Welcome to Australia, Leo.

Hey Blog reader! Yes, you reading the blog comments - no not the moderator - you with the pair of eyes reading this text right now - you need to click on the photo credit link (Mikkel Aaland) and navigate to his On Board QANTAS story - there you will see a very cute photo of a sleeping Leo. I wonder what he's dreaming about?

my hubby flies from Michigan to Shanghai and Seoul all the time and he doesn't get jammies. He gets socks, earplugs and a mask. guess GM is buying him the wrong airline!

I've only been in the bubble when it was the first class lounge of a few (US domestic) flights early in the 747's career.

Welcome to the land down under. Tasmania is certainly a beautiful (if cold) part to visit. Hope you thoroughly enjoy your stay.

Very fetching PJs (I still have a pair myself!). It was good to catch up with you at the airport: it was good of you to take the time to do that.

I saw Leo at the airport this morning around 11:00am. What a surprise. It was the domestic (T2) rather than International terminal. I tried to blurt out a greeting but was encumbered by a ticket in my mouth, fishing gear and a backpack: I'd just returned from a vacation. I doubt whether the gurgle was recognised. I am bitterly disappointed that I didn't know of the "meetup". Serves me right for going on vacation ... in Tasmania!

Hey Leo - forget chemical brewed beers like Fosters, Carlton Draft, VB, XXXX, etc. make sure sample some of the great micro-breweries while you're in Tassie. Also sample James Squires range - excellent!
